Our work is currently focused on the below-mentioned three domains:
A healthy nation, for today and tomorrow
Greenply Foundation identifies healthcare as a segment that truly needs attention, given that the existing healthcare infrastructure is stretched to its capacity. We feel that our efforts of providing requisite healthcare support, can make a valuable difference in the lives of people living in rural India.
Our healthcare project aims at providing mobile health care in the mountainous region of Nagaland, where access to health services are currently limited. The Foundation’s Mobile Medical Van (MMV) initiative, in its 15-day pilot phase alone, has benefitted over 1000 people across 18 villages of Mon District, Nagaland. The MMV is currently catering to the basic healthcare needs of a population of over 25,000 across 29 villages. This initiative is being implemented with the technical knowledge and expertise of Rural Development Institute, Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, Dehradun.
In the long run, we aim to create a behavior change among rural communities towards a healthy and hygienic living.
The future with a view
With the larger goal of ensuring sustainable use of environmental resources and also to provide additional income to farmers, we lay emphasis on promotion of large-scale replenishable plantations. The idea is to plant fast-growing species of trees on degraded hill slopes in an effort to regenerate the land. In a short period of time, the plants will grow into trees which farmers may harvest and sell as hard wood to industries – therefore this will enable farmers to earn an additional income alongside agriculture as well as address problems of soil erosion, land degradation etc.
The plantation initiative has set up a nursery and clonal propagation center in Tizit with an aim to introduce genetically superior planting material. Free saplings are being distributed to local farmers who would then become owners of the particular tree. Currently in Tizit, Mon District, Nagaland sapling development and distribution is underway. The plantation initiative has so far covered nearly 1200 acres of land in Tizit area.
Developing skills of girl students
We believe in empowering girl children and women and providing avenues for their talent to flourish. We are supporting talented girls from economically weaker sections of the society, through Udayan Care, a non-profit organization based in West Bengal. Udayan’s Shalini Fellowship Program is a unique academic excellence and personality development program, which aims to empower girls and women. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it goes beyond being a usual Scholarship Program, by not only supporting higher education but also providing regular mentoring and leadership development and inculcating a sense of social responsibility to the selected talented girls.
Providing nutritious meals to underprivileged children
We are mindful of the fact that a healthy body needs nutritious food. With this thought in mind, we are supporting Ektara, a Kolkata based charitable organization in providing nutritious daily meals for underprivileged children. This project is being undertaken in Tiljala, Topsia and adjoining areas of Kolkata.
